It's the voter's responsibility to check names: Telangana CEO

Dr. Rajath Kumar, the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, has issued a statement in the wake of 22 lakh voters missing from voter list in the recently-held Assembly elections.

Deletions and inclusions are made as part of voter enrolments. Objections under Form No. 7 are invariably invited from citizens to raise objections within 7 days before carrying out deletions. Voters are reqd to apply in Form 6 to include their names, he has said.

Electoral rolls for recent elections were updated only after duly taking up an extensive exercise as per guidelines. They were published on November 19 with the inclusion of a supplementary list. Some voters said their names weren't included though they voted in the 2014 General Elections, he added.

They are required to file an application in Form No. 6 either online through National Voter Service Portal or physically to their Booth Level Officer/Election Registration Officers. Responsibility for checking their names and enrolment lies with voters and voting in an earlier poll doesn't entitle them to vote in subsequent polls, he concluded.
