R Madhavan's long delayed biographical drama 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' is still a few months away from its release. The film is based on the life of controversial ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan and apart from being the lead actor in it, Madhavan has also directed the project.
In a recent media interaction, Madhavan shared that 'Rocketry' is a passion project for him and he considers it a service to the nation rather than a commercial venture. "It's not a commercial venture for any of us, it's sort of a national duty and I hope we're able to send the message across," the actor told PTI.
The subject of the film, S. Nambi Narayanan was wrongly accused of sharing confidential defence related info to Maldives in 1994. However, he presented his own case in court and was declared not guilty in 1996. Initially, Madhavan thought the film would be an opportunity for him to play a James Bond like character but that mindset didn't last for long.
"I knew there was something terribly wrong with my approach the moment I met him. There was so much more to this story. There was angst in his eyes. Interestingly, Nambi sir was not talking about his achievements, he was only talking about the case," said Madhavan.
'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' is set to release theatrically on 1st of July this year.
