Shahrukh Khan's comeback project 'Pathaan' has done what several large scale Bollywood films of last one year could not. It managed to lure the audience back to theatres and collected close to 90 crore rupees worldwide on its first day. In a recent media interaction, acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap talked about how important it is for films like 'Pathaan' to succeed.
In his conversation with Brut, the filmmaker stated, Iâm a filmmaker who has never had an opening. And I am still here. And my films have lived on. It is important for big films like Pathaan or Bholaa to work, because money comes into the circulation. Pathaan works, cinema exhibitors get the money and it gives them courage. What it does for the audience is, they come and throng the halls.â
Sharing how films like 'Pathaan' work as confidence and morale booster for rest of the industry, Anurag said, It empowers. The success of the film empowers the film industry. All of us. It empowers everyone. I might not make a movie like Pathaan. But I want Pathaan to work. Shah Rukhâs success is important to me. We exist because of the big films. If you look at different countries in the world, where there is no mainstream masala cinema, it is very hard to make films. They donât have a film industry and theyâre dependent on cultural funds.â
Directed by Siddharth Anand, 'Pathaan' also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in primary roles and Salman Khan in a cameo appearance.
