Millions of fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the release of Thalapathy Vijay's 'Mersal' this Diwali. Much to the rejoicing of fans, the title dispute over ‘Mersal’ was nullified by the high court yesterday.
Also ‘Mersal’ directed by Atlee passed CBFC’s censor with a UA certificate as reported earlier. It’s been about eight solid years since a Vijay film has acquired a UA verdict. The actor's last film to get UA was 'Vettaikaran' which relased in 2009. Vijay's subsequent films like 'Sura', 'Kaavalan', 'Velayudham', 'Nanban', 'Thuppakki', 'Thalaivaa', 'Jilla', 'Kaththi', 'Puli', 'Theri' and 'Bhairavaa' passed the censors with a clean slate receiving 'U' certificate. After 11 movies, only now 'Mersal' has been given a UA verdict.
However, it is expected that this will not impact the movie majorly as the state has withdrawn tax discounts to films since the introduction of GST last July. ‘Mersal' has Vijay playing three distinct roles along with actresses Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
