Because it's India's heaviest rocket ever, they are cutely referring to it as Baahubali. Making India proud, ISRO on Wednesday successfully placed the high-end communications satellite GSAT-29 in the orbit through the 'Baahubali' rocket. The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk-III-D2) lifted off from Sriharikota.
"#GSLVMkIIID2 lifts off majestically carrying #GSAT29 from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. About 17 min later, the vehicle injected satellite successfully into GTO. Post that, Master Control Facility at Hassan assumed control of satellite. The 1st operational mission of #GSLVMkIII will be #Chandrayaan-2," ISRO said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several leaders across the country hailed the development. "Extremely proud of India’s successful launch of Geosynchronous Satellite #GSAT29 “Baahubali” today which will improve connectivity across the country. Hats off to the team of @ISRO who worked for 15 long years to pull this off," Sachin Pilot of the Congress said.
