Recently, the 10th anniversary of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire was celebrated, and Isaipuyal A.R.Rahman who won two Oscar awards for the movie, had graced the occasion. Photographs and videos of his daughter Khatija wearing a purdah had turned viral.
There were many negative comments, trolls and posts about her wearing a purdah, and following this, Khatija also came up with a post on her Facebook page, clarifying that it was her choice and that it was not something she did forced by her father, and asked people to stop judging without knowing true situations.
A.R.Rahman himself put a full stop to the never ending hate campaign, as he posted a photo of his wife Sairaa and his daughters Raheema and Khatija with Nita Ambani, which had Khatija alone in a purdah, and used the hashtag #FreedomtoChoose, clearly indicating that it was Khatija's choice to wear a purdah, and thus gave subtle and fitting response to the negativity that was spreading.
