Is the BJP operating secretly to wean the DMK away from the Congress?

Sources from the national capital point out that the ruling BJP at the Centre is making its strongest bid to wean the DMK away from the Congress fold for which it had set in motion a 'secret operation'.

DMK and the Congress have been allies for many years but the relationship between the two parties aren't smooth ever since Tirunavukkarasar took over as the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC).  DMK's working president M.K. Stalin doesn't seem to approve this attitude by the Congress' State Unit even as Congress' high-command wants the DMK to remain its ally.

Now that proposals for a non-BJP, non-Congress third front are being mooted in various quarters, the BJP has woken up to ensure that no Congress Govt. or a Govt. headed by Congress and supported by its allies (regional parties) gets to rule at the Centre after next year's Lok Sabha polls. It may be recalled that Congress registered its lowest performance as on date during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

As the BJP's image has taken a beating across the nation and the party is not certain it would be able to retain the 282 seats it won in 2014, the party is said to be making all out efforts to thwart the possibility of the Congress securing a majority by hook and crook to rule. The first-phase of this effort is to weaken the Congress in Tamil Nadu by weaning the DMK away from it, it is reported.

A top BJP leader from outside Tamil Nadu recently had a interaction with the DMK high-command recently, advising the party to get away from the Congress for the time being so that it can analyze and decide its stance after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls are over.
