Is Deepika's 'Dum Maro Dum' the most controversial song of 2011?

Audience has definitely moved on from Karisma Kapoor's 'Sexy Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole' jig from the 90s and over the years have become far more tolerant to the likes of 'Munnis', 'Sheilas' and 'Razias'. However there are some boundaries that are still waiting to be crossed. Guess Deepika Padukone's 'Dum Maro Dum' (from the namesake film) has just done that and though one didn't expect such public outcry, the response is scarier than what even the makers would have imagined.
What were the makers thinking when they chose such crude lyrics for the song, questions a lyricist on condition of anonymity, It is fine to be cheesy at times but if you tell me that lyrics like 'Aaj mere liye chair kheech raha hai, kal meri skirt kheechega' is trendy then sorry, I guess I am at a wrong place.
Not just the lyrics by Jaideep Sahni, even Deepika's moves and the strategic points at which camera has been placed on her anatomy has seen widespread reactions coming in as well. An out and out adults-only track that in fact goes many steps beyond what one has seen on Indian screens, 'Dum Maro Dum' is in it's own way has leap frogged the four decade gap between it's predecessor that featured Zeenat Aman.
You can be progressive but if you make audience hear lyrics like 'potty pe baithe nanga' then they are bound to cringe, comments a trade observer, Rest assured, family audience would be put off here though youth may just grab it
Guess Dev Anand would be having the final laugh. After all he was someone who was completely against the cult track to be presented all over again in its new form, shape and avatar. Now that the newer version is seeing extreme reactions coming it's way, 'Dum Maro Dum' could well turn out to be not just the most controversial song of the season but an attempt which is bound to result in massive debates.
