Is Anwar a Terrorist….Well….It was a startling small poster inside the conjusted-confines of the first class of peak time Mumbai local train. Obviously, for the uninitiated it must have been news worth gossiping about. But since yours truly has been following the publicity campaign of Manish Jha’s forthcoming film ‘Anwar’ I knew what this unusual campaign was aiming at. Anwar is the name of Sidhharth Koirala’s character in the film who is caught up in a quagmire of a vicious religious battle.

Well, the film is everyone is talking about the film anyways, let’s discuss the feasibility of such a poster as this. For it was not merely an advertisement. It also mentioned that whosoever shall give any information about Anwar will be rewarded as well. Doesn’t it transgress the limits? A somewhat similar campaign comes to mind when Mahesh Bhatt’s film company a few years ago had published reports in newspapers that Manisha Koirala has been “killed by a criminal.” It was a campaign to promote Bhatt’s then released film ‘Criminal’ also starring Nagarjuna. Koirala had been offended by the campaign. It remains to be seen what repercussions ‘Anwar’s’ campaign shall be having in the time to come.
