It is quite lethal for a lesser known director to release his movie on a weekend that has a dozen more movies waiting to get the positive nod of the audience. It is here that the new movie from Biju C Kannan- ‘Iruvazhi Thiriyunnidam’ falters. With Kalabahavan Mani in the lead and an unusual storyline that is not thickly packed with commercially viable fares, the movie faces stiff competition to get audience. The poor prepublicity and limited release centres, will add to its woes and it needs to be seen whether the movie can gather enough for even an average run.

The movie has Kalabhavan Mani as Velu. He is basically  an orphan with no close friends and no place to call his own. Upon the insistance of Ravunni, a small time hotelier, Velu decides to settle down somewhere. When he leads an uneventful life as  a head load worker in the local market, he gets married and starts his family life which changes his life forever.

The movie has an unusual story-line about man-women relationship , which makes ‘Iruvazhi Thiriyunnidam’ different and watchable. The unconventional treatments meted out will also help the movie getting noticed. The entire characterizations in the movie appear lively and realistic. All the women characters here are addressed with the same name which reflects the fundamental thread of the flick. Of course the pacing is a little sluggish but for this kind of complicated themes it is justified. Biju C Kannan handles the direction with clear ideas and neatness, with able support from K B Deva Anbu, the cinematographer. The music by Theju Mervin and other technical sides are okay, at best.

The performances here are even with Kalabhavan Mani once again coming up in different looks and ages  and with a finer performance that deserves accolades.   Anoop Chandran , Sreekumar and Seema G Nair also impress in their respective roles, while the performances of lesser known artists appear overboard at times. Communist leader M M Mani also starts his filmy career in a cameo role .

'Iruvazhi Thiriyunnidam' is a complex tale with little colours about the life of ordinary folks, which may not be a treat for lovers of runoff the mill stuff. With good direction, and performances, the movie may be listed as a good flick . But this may not help it gain in the commercial Box Office.
