Ira Dubey: I don't want to get typecast

After nearly four long years since her last reel outing with 'Aisha, the talented and charming Ira Dubey is back on the silver screen with 'Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend' (DWZG).

Talking Ira about her long hiatus, Ira said, "My main priority as an actor is to do some different sort of variety in the kind of work that I do. I don't want to get typecast. It is very easy to get typecast in Bollywood. After Aisha, I got so many offers - kind of glamorous, best friends, loud characters. But they weren't very exciting for me. I also was doing plenty of theatre that time as I was not getting anything exciting."

Speaking about what made her say yes to DWZG, Ira said, "The modern Indian girl or woman wants more than to be a housewife and has a voice to share- whether it's my director Japinder who's showing us women as heartbreakers, or my character Nimmi who doesn't just want to get married off and become a housewife, women are holding forth in a man's world! The opportunity to play such a character who has guts and is so relatable to so many girls today was an exciting one. Nimmi is representative of a real Delhi, Punjabi strata of young women and I wanted to make her as much flesh and blood as I could. She may be mummy's choice but she can be Zalim when requires - she is all woman, gentle but strong and knows how to fight back when wronged. I also got the chance to do some comedy through the film which was great fun and learnt a lot from all three of my co actors - Divyendu, Pradhuman and Jackie sir. We had a blast and a chance to play off one another so much, I am very grateful for that."

There's not much about Ira Dubey in the promotions of the film. When we convey this to her, she stated, "The promo doesn't reveal too much of the plot and that is deliberate but my character Nimmi is a very significant and crucial role in the film. Always has been from the scripting stage! With fresh content, styling, a very real Delhi contemporary setting and great music, DWZG has all the right ingredients. It's a romantic, fun filled, adventure, where most importantly, the friendship of the characters and their journey to take matters in to their own hands will be something everyone will root foot."

Produced by Manjeet Kaur & Tarnpreet Singh, DWZG also stars Divyendu Sharma, Jackie Shroff, Pradhuman Singh and others. It released all over yesterday.
