A tweet by Pankaj Nain, an IPS officer, has gone viral at a time when the Coronavirus scare has gripped parts of India. In the tweet, Nain juxtaposes the sense of fear that the epidemic has created with the reckless attitude of people when it comes to huge dangers such as road accidents.

"Just one case of CoronaVirus in India and people are crazy for masks!! Daily 400 people die in road crashes and still no craze for Helmets. #safetysaves be it virus or road crashes!" the tweet reads.

The tweet has spawned a range of reactions. "Just 1 case of corona Virus in India and govt feeling crazy and taking measures! Daily 400 people die in road crashes and still no proper roads," @chikati_rajyam replied.

When heavy fines were imposed on violation of road safety norms, several state governments diluted the new rules last year. It says a lot about the attitude of Indians to traffic and other norms.
