Jio Cinema the home grown OTT and Video On Demand platform owned by Mukesh Ambani is currently broadcasting the ongoing IPL 2023 for free. It is well known that the company bought the rights for the next five years for a staggering 2.7 billion USD. But at the same time millions of new users have joined the platform thanks to the number one cricket tournament in the world.
Since there is the danger of most of the potential customers to ignore Jio Cinema after the finals of the IPL 2023 on May 28th the company is apparently taking some proactive steps to retain its user base and convert them to customers. Recently, Jio Cinemas has launched an annual subscription of Rs 999 and has plans to release new movies directly.
It is now reported that one among the first films to stream on Jio Cinema without going to theaters will be the Tamil film 'Mohandas'. The psycho thriller film which caught fans attention after the teaser release has apparently got a nice deal from the new OTT platform. The film directed by Muralai Karthik has Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead supported by Indrajith Sukumaran, Karunakaran, Lallu, Prakash Raghavan and Shariq Hassan. The official announcement is expected soon.
It is also worth mentioning that Jio Cinema has already signed an agreement with HBO and Warner Brothers, for all their content to be streamed in India for next several years. The Reliance Group like all other fields that they do business in is expected to disrupt the OTT business that now has mostly foreign players dominating namely Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sony Liv and Disney Plus Hotstar.
