Official: Full list of players retained by each IPL team ahead of mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) retention ahead of the mega auction 2022 saw a lot of twists and turns with numerous unexpected releases and retentions by the eight existing franchises. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Andre Russell and Glenn Maxwell were some of the most predicted retentions of their respective teams.

Each franchise had been allowed to retain four of their players ahead of the mega auction. The respective franchises were allowed to retain either three Indian players and one overseas player or two Indian players and two overseas players. The two new unnamed franchises, based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will now have a chance to buy upto three players each from the pool of released players by all eight teams.

Following is a list of all players retained by each IPL franchise -

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):

Mumbai Indians (MI):

Punjab Kings (PBKS)


1) Mayank Agarwal - 14 crore
2) Arshdeep Singh (uncapped) - 4 crore

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):


1) Kane Williamson - 14 crore
2) Abdul Samad (uncapped) - 4 crore
3) Umran Malik (uncapped) - 4 crore

Chennai Super Kings (CSK):


1) Ravindra Jadeja - 16 crore
2) MS Dhoni - 12 crore
3) Moeen Ali - 8 crore
4) Ruturaj Gaikwad - 6 crore

Delhi Capitals (DC):


1) Rishabh Pant - 16 crore
2) Axar Patel - 9 crore
3) Prithvi Shaw - 7.5 crore
4) Anrich Nortje - 6.5 crore

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):

1) Andre Russell - 12 crore
2) Varun Chakravarthy - 8 crore
3) Venkatesh Iyer - 8 crore
4) Sunil Narine - 6 crore

Rajasthan Royals (RR):

1) Sanju Samson - 14 crore
2) Jos Buttler - 10 crore
3) Yashasvi Jaiswal (uncapped) - 4 crore

A total salary cap of Rs 90 crore has been made available at the mega auction for each team. As per BCCI’s retention rules, franchises have been charged Rs 16 crore for the first player they retain, Rs 12 crore for the second player, Rs 8 crore for the third player and Rs 6 crore for the fourth player.

In case a franchise retained four players, Rs 42 crore was deducted from the total purse. For three retentions, 33 crore was deducted, while for two retentions, the purse amount reduced by Rs 24 crore and in case of one retention, Rs 14 crore was deducted.

Following is a list of the purse amount remaining for each team after the retentions -

RCB - 57 crore

MI - 48 crore

PBKS - 72 crore

SRH - 68 crore

CSK - 48 crore

DC - 47.5 crore

KKR - 48 crore

RR - 62 crore

Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians opted to retain 4 players each. Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad retained 3 players, while Punjab Kings retained only 2 players. Hence, PBKS have the highest salary purse available with Rs 72 crore while Delhi Capitals have the lowest amount at Rs 47.50 crore ahead of the mega auction.
