Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday handed over the Chennai Super Kings back to MS Dhoni just 8 matches into the season. Dhoni will lead the defending champions against SRH in Pune on Sunday.
CSK said Jadeja wanted to focus more on his game and Dhoni in turn accepted the request made by the all-rounder. It has been a dramatic few weeks for CSK in IPL 2022 as Dhoni had stepped down from the role just 2 days in the lead up to the new season, handing over the baton to Jadeja. While the all-rounder was expected to come out of Dhoni's shadows, Jadeja struggled to get going with both bat and ball.
In an official statement, released by CSK, it was said Jadeja wanted to concentrate on his own game. Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game, the statement said.
In eight matches this season, Jadeja has managed to score just 112 runs and with the ball in hand, he has taken five wickets. On the other hand, Dhoni has shown good form with the bat and even helped CSK come from behind to defeat Mumbai Indians. In that game, Dhoni smashed 16 runs off the final four balls to take the defending champions over the line.
