The T20 cricket carnival Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start its next season and the mega auction for this year's edition is taking place today and tomorrow. The live relay of the bids is currently being aired on the Star Sports channel. The BCCI had introduced two new IPL teams: Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad Titans ahead of the auction.

Indiaglitz had already broken to you first that Lucknow Super Giants' early draft picks are KL Rahul, Marcus Stonis, Ravi Bishnoi and Ahmedabad Titans' early draft picks are Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya will captain the Lucknow and Ahmedabad sides respectively. Around 590 players of various categories will go under the hammer for the 10 franchises to build a wise squad of 18 members.

Now, the latest news is that the BCCI might make available the 'Secret Tie Breaker Bid' in the mega auction for the first time in 2022. This IPL tie-breaker rule was designed in 2010 to be used in smaller auctions to break a deadlock in case of equal maximum bids for a player. This rule has never been used in the mega auction so far, the method may be used in a scenario where a player has attracted the maximum bid to spend at the auction – from more than one franchise.

The interested franchises then submit an additional bid in writing with the higher bidder getting the player. However, the additional money goes to the BCCI and not the player. A total of three players have been bought via the secret tie-breaker Bid so far: Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians) and Shane Bond (Kolkata Knight Riders) in 2010, and Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings) in 2012.
