Three members of the Chennai Super Kings' IPL contingent, including the team's CEO Kasi Viswanathan, have tested positive for Covid-19. While bowling coach L Balaji and a bus cleaner have tested positive for the virus as well, the test results of the players have come back as negative.
The news comes hours after postponing tonight's match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore after the former team's bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19. The CSK members who have been diagnosed with the infection are expected to isolate themselves for 10 days outside the bio bubble before returning with two negative test results. Confirming the rescheduling of tonight's match, the BCCI issued a statement which read, "Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were found to be positive in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other team members have tested negative for COVID -19. Both the players have isolated themselves from the rest of the squad."
The statement added, "The Medical Team is in continuous touch with the duo and are monitoring their health. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders have now moved towards a daily testing routine to identify any other possible cases and treat them at the earliest. The Medical Team is also determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results. The BCCI and the Kolkata Knight Riders prioritise the health and safety of everyone involved and all measures are being taken in that endeavour."
During the course of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League which happened last year at the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 13 members of CSK, including players Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Chahar, had tested positive for Covid-19. CSK is set to take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) next at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi on May 5.
