Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul underwent laparoscopic appendectomy, a minimally invasive surgery, last night at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The franchise recently informed that Rahul was suffering from acute appendicitis after he complained of severe abdomen pain on Saturday.
KL Rahul last played in IPL on April 30 where the team faced Royal Challengers Bangalore and emerged victorious owing to his unbeaten 91. Following the surgery, the doctors have reportedly informed the management that Rahul would be able to resume his regular activities after a week's rest. He is then expected to join the team in the bio bubble post the mandatory quarantine period. A BCCI source was quoted as saying, "Post his surgery, his recovery will be in a bubble so that he remains in a protected environment (amid the COVID-19 pandemic)." Ahead of Punjab Kings' match against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, the team informed that Mayank Agarwal will be leading the side in KL Rahul's absence.
Their statement read, "K L Rahul complained of severe abdomen pain last night and after not responding to medication, he was taken to the emergency room for further tests which revealed that he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It will be resolved surgically and for safety measures, he has been transferred to the hospital for the same." Punjab Kings will be taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) next at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on May 6.
