England all-rounder Sam Curran is currently playing with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He suffered a back injury after CSK's match against the Rajasthan Royals on Saturday.
Now, Sam will miss the remainder of IPL 2021 and also ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup. He will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week by the ECB's medical team. Tom Curran, Sam's elder brother, has been named in the England World Cup squad as the left-armer's replacement.
"Curran complained of back pain after Chennai Super Kings Indian Premier League fixture on Saturday against Rajasthan Royals. Results of the scan revealed the injury," the ECB stated. Surrey’s Reece Topley also has been added as a travelling reserve and will join the England party in due course.
