The world-famous T20 cricket league: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021's second phase has resumed in UAE this month. Now, the latest is that BCCI has announced that the last two league matches of the season will take place concurrently. This is the first time in history that IPL will see two simultaneous games.
Usually, a doubleheader sees one afternoon and one evening game. The procedure to date has been one game at 3:30 PM IST followed by an evening match at 7:30 PM. But now the board has decided to experiment by having two games parallelly. If the games start at the same time, the unfair advantage to any team will be avoided in case the last match has a chance of qualification to the playoffs with the Net Run Rate.
On the last day of the league stage, the two matches will be conducted at the same time in the evening at two venues. On October 8, Mumbai Indians will face the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi while Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Delhi Capitals in Dubai International Stadium. Both the games will begin at 07.30 PM IST.
“The official broadcaster had asked BCCI whether they can have two games simultaneously in two different venues. The broadcasters have informed us that TRP for afternoon games is less compared to evening games. The BCCI can experiment with having two games simultaneously. As Star has multiple channels under their banner, they can provide live telecast of two games smoothly. So, BCCI has agreed to the request,” the board official told the media.
