IPL 2020: Virat Kohli fined Rs. 12 lakh

Royal Challengers Bangalore's captain Virat Kohli has been fined Rs. 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first innings of their match against Kings XI Punjab last night.

Virat Kohli also dropped two catches of KL Rahul in the initial overs, which ended up proving costly for the team. KL Rahul set a record with an unbeaten 132 off 69, making it the highest score by an Indian in the history of IPL. As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh, the IPL said in an official release. The RCB were bowled out for 109 in 17 overs, resulting in a 97-run defeat. During the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli took responsibility for the team's loss as a captain. I think we were good in the middle phase with the ball, they got off to a decent start and we pulled things back nicely. I have to stand in front and take the brunt of it, not the best day in the office, a couple of important chances of KL when he was set and that cost us 35-40 runs at a later stage. Maybe if we restricted them to 180, we wouldn't have been under pressure from ball one of the chases. We know exactly where we went wrong and I have to put my hand up and say a couple of important chances went down, the batsman said.

There are days when these kinds of things happen on the cricket field, they happen and we have to accept them. We have had a good game, we have had a bad game and now it is time to move on, Kohli further added. Royal Challengers Bangalore will be facing off against Mumbai Indians next on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium.
