Unlike the previous editions, the Chennai Super Kings team has not had much success in the current season of IPL so far, leading to a lot of questions about the selection of players, especially since two key players of the team, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh, decided to sit out of the tournament over personal reasons.

Since all the teams are finished playing 7 matches each, the mid-season transfer window was opened from Tuesday (October 13) and the teams were provided with an opportunity to transfer Indian as well as overseas players during the stipulated period (5 days from Tuesday). According to the mid-season transfer rule, both capped and uncapped players will get the chance to find new teams, depending on mutually agreed upon loan fees etc. As per the terms, the player should not have taken part in more than two matches in the entire season and will have to shift back to his original team in the upcoming year, as the transfer will remain valid only through the current season. The IPL Governing Council will have to be notified for all such transfers. Several fans of CSK had been looking forward to this, as a transfer might have helped complement the team's middle-order. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has ruled out the possibility and stated that the management is not looking to take in any players from the other teams.

"CSK has never brought or released players in the mid-season transfer window and we have honestly not even gone through the rules and regulations that come into play if we are looking at a transfer. We are not looking at any player," Kasi Viswanathan reportedly mentioned in his statement. The CEO further added, "It is a competition after all and I don't think anyone would want to loan players to another franchise. Some might be playing and others might not, but all players are picked at the auction with numerous plans in mind and for different situations that might arise during the course of the tournament. You do not go in with just Plan A. You have an A, B, C and D."
