It is reported that Karthi, son of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s son, has been evasive and far from cooperative in replying to queries posed to him by the CBI which had taken judicial custody of him for five days till this evening.

As reported earlier, Karthi was arrested last week at a dramatic ‘Airport Operation’ at Chennai by the CBI and was later taken to New Delhi and produced before the CBI’s Patiala House Courts. He was initially remanded to a day’s judicial custody to enable the CBI to inquire him about his role in the INX Media case more than five years back when his firm received huge, unaccounted money from INX Media.

He was taken to a Mumbai prison yesterday and was interrogated in the presence of another accused Indrani Mukherjee (who was the owner of INX Media), whose firm reportedly bribed Karthi to get formal approval/consent of the now-defunct Foreign Investment Promotion Board (which was under the control of Karthi’s father who was the Finance Minister at that time) to received Rs.305 crores as funds from abroad.

Though Indrani had earlier spilled the beans, Karthi was still adamant and didn’t confess to taking bribe from her. He was also evasive in his replies to the CBI which is likely to seek extension of his judicial custody for interrogating him further.
