'Game Over' directed by Ashwin Saravanan and starring Tapsee Pannu is one of the movies that is drumming up a lot of curiosity among the audiences and people who have seen it are raving about it as a pathbreaker in Tamil cinema. We caught up with Ron Ethan Yohann the music director of the film who has shared deep insights on his much-appreciated scores for 'Maya', 'Sigai', 'Oppam', 'Iravaakaalam', 'Naragasooran' and his future plans.
Ron Ethan Yohann has revealed that he comes from a musical family with both dad and grandad very much into it. He is a pianist trained in western classical and it was Santhosh Narayanan a good friend who introduced him to officials at Potential Studios who produced 'Maya'. The film had no songs but Yohann's musical score was well received and he is of the opinion that the music director is the second director of a film as he has to convey the story through music.
Yohann enjoys composing songs as well as background score but so far most of his films have not had songs in them and on lighter vein shares that even the one melodious lullaby he composed for 'Maya' has not listened much as people feel scared of it and feel its sung by the ghost Maya. According to him 'Game Over' is a multi-genre film and has a unique soundscape design which will help express the feelings of the psychologically affected heroine Swapna played by Tapsee Pannu. The interesting technique that Yohann used is getting into the character skin of the heroine to create music according to the turbulence inside her.
Yohann quotes MSV, Ilayaraja and Rahman as inspiration in Tamil and also Hollywood composers like John Williams, James Horner and John Powell. The young generation music exponent is prepared to wait for the right script and will only choose directors who he can bond with to bring out the best in each other in their creations.
