After being ousted from the CBI following the recommendation from a special committee headed by Indian prime Minister Narendra Modi, former CBI director Alok Verma who was then given the post of Fire services chief, had resigned, bt now, the Internal affairs ministry has been asking him to serve as the chief for one day at the least.
Weeks back, Alok Verma had filed his resignation, requesting to consider January 11, the date he was removed from CBI, as his retirement date. Earlier, there was a tussle between Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana within CBI over bribery issues and charges, and this lead to CBI sending both of them on a mandatory leave, following which both were removed from CBI.
While Alok had reached his retirement age in July 2017 itself, he was given an extension with CBI for 2 years, and citing that he had reached retirement age, and that he cannot hold the fire services chief position, Alok Verma had sent a letter to the central government employees welfare union to consider January 11 as his retirement date. However, now the union internal affairs ministry has responded to Alok Verma with a letter informing him to join the fire service department with immediate effect, and retire after serving for a day.
