Just in case we miss it, the Teaser for 'Savyasachi' clearly gives out the name of the syndrome associated with Naga Chaitanya's character. Vanishing twin syndrome, it is. We should only thank God that Chandoo Mondeti doesn't give a power-point presentation about VTS in the Teaser.

So, what is the syndrome about? "This occurs when a twin or multiple disappears in the uterus during pregnancy as a result of a miscarriage of one twin or multiple. The fetal tissue is absorbed by the other twin, multiple, placenta or the mother. This gives the appearance of a vanishing twin", says an American medical portal.

The syndrome was first discovered in the year 1945.

From what we see in the Teaser, Mondeti must have applied a combination of science and fiction to enrich Chay's character. For example, in the case of films like 'Aparichitudu', disorders occur as they happen in real life (for the most part at least). In 'Savyasachi', one presumes, there is a lot of creative tweaking.

A recent report published in Big Think throws further light on the syndrome. "You may be your own twin. There is something called tetragametic chimerism in which two fertilized embryos fail to recognize each other as siblings and combine to grow into a single fetus with different cell lines in utero. It’s sometimes referred to hauntingly as “Vanishing Twin Syndrome.” In other cases, both twins survive but some DNA is swapped or gets mixed," the report says.

We are in for something interesting in 'Savyasachi', hopefully.
