In a shocking incident, a family had burnt a couple to death for inter-caste marriage in Ahmednagar. The honour killing was done by the girl Rukmini's family. Rukmini's father and two uncles poured kerosene over the 23-year-old Mangesh Ransing and Rukmini (19), and set them on fire on May 1 in Nighoj village.
Rukmini Ransingh sustained 70 per cent burn injuries and passed away on Saturday night, while her husband, Mangesh is who sustained 50 per cent burn injuries is receiving treatment at Sasoon General Hospital in Pune. Rukmini and Mangesh got married despite the objections of Rukmini’s family, and since their marriage her family had been threatening them.
As per police reports on April 30, the couple had a dispute following which Rukmini went to her family home and on May 1, she had called Mangesh and when he arrived, her family refused to let her and following an argument, her two uncles set the couple on fire, in the presence of her father, who locked the room from outside. Hearing the screams, the neighbours came rushing to help them and took them to hospital, while Rukmini's uncles Surendra Bhartiy and Ghansham Saroj were arrested by Ahmednagar police. members.
