Allegedly, an Indonesian guy killed his neighbour after being questioned about his single status several times.
The incident happened on July 29 in North Sumatra's South Tapanuli Regency. 45-year-old Parlindungan Siregar allegedly visited the house of 60-year-old retired civil worker Asgim Irianto at about 8pm and struck him with a piece of wood without any notice.
Local media, which quotes Assistant Police Commissioner Maria Marpaung, claims that the specifics of the attack derived from a statement provided by Asgim Irianto's wife. Asgim fled the scene following the first attack, only to be pursued by Parlindungan, who struck the victim's skull fatally. Parlindungan kept pounding Asgim until he died.
Neighbors stepped in to stop the attack and hurried Asgim to the hospital. Assistant Police Commissioner Maria Marpaung said sadly the 60-year-old passed away en route.
Within one hour Parlindungan Siregar was taken into custody. Under police interrogation, he acknowledged he was driven to kill Asgim because of the frequent comments on his single status, which he considered to be quite offensive. Local newspapers reportedly mentioned that the two men had earlier arguments about their poultry straying into one another's coops.
