Assamese film 'Village Rockstars', which has won four National Awards, is India's official Oscar entry for the year (for the Best Foreign Language Film category). Directed by Rima Das, the drama tells the story of Dhuu, an economically poor 10-year-old girl from a nondescript village in Assam. She dreams of playing the guitar and making a band of her own come into existence.
For her performance, Bhanita Das had won a National Award. The three other National Awards are for best location, sound recording, and editing.
The film will hit the screens on 28 September 2018.
'Mahanati' was the one Telugu film that was in contention for the official nomination among the 28 Indian films considered. In Hindi, films like 'Raazi', 'Padmaavat', 'Hichki', 'October', '102 Not Out', 'Pihu', and 'Love Sonia' were examined.
