Bollywood seems to be bitten by the 'biopic' bug, as a spree of films documenting the personal lives of sports stars have been announced recently. Following cricketers like Dhoni, Sachin, Kapil Dev and Jhulan Goswami from the Indian women's cricket team, another female cricketer's life will be portrayed in the big screen.
Viacom 18 Motion Pictures have bought the rights for transforming the Indian women cricket team's skipper Mithali Dorai Raj's life into a biopic. Mithali displayed extraordinary leadership as she headed the women's team into the finals of the recently held Women's World Cup.
Though, India narrowly missed the title, MIthali's capabilities as a leader and her exceptional batting performance was appreciated by people in the sports fraternity.
The 34 year old lady cricketer made her debut into the sport at a very young age of 16. She also has the credit of being the youngest centurion when she slammed a century playing against Ireland the same year debuted. Mithali who is sometimes refereed to as is also the first women cricketer to cross the 6000 runs milestone in women's One Day International matches.
Mithali who is an Arjuna awardee and a Padma Shri recipient (fourth highest civilian award for her contribution to cricket) , hopes that her story will help inspire more girls to take up a sports career boldly.
