After that phenomenal critical and box office success of 'Pranchiyettan and the Sain', writer- director Ranjith is back with a new movie titled as 'Indian Rupee'. The director is currently busy shooting for the movie in his hometown, Kozhikkod, teaming up for the first time with the ace cinematographer S. kumar.
Prithviraj who debuted with the Renjith movie 'Nandhanam' will be joining his mentor once again through this 'Indian Rupee'. He plays Jayaprakash, a young man who dreams of making it big as a real-estate broker.
'Indian Rupee' widely thought of as a prequel to Renjith's 'Pranchiyettan.....' is all about money. The movie will showcase the interests of the new generation to make easy money and become rich overnight. In the movie, Jayaprakash known popularly as J P, also dreams of becoming a rich man through real estate business, as he happens to meet a lot of such youngsters in Kozhikkod. He also has a debt of three lakhs, which he needs to repay in a few months. And for that J P finds real estate deals as an easy way out. The movie goes on to tell through the protagonist that life is not just all about money.
Lalu Alex who is for the first time cast in a Renjith movie will come up as Surendran, an elderly friend of Jayaprakash. A man who finds happiness in running a small time business, J P is like a brother to Surendran. His younger sister Beena (Rima Kallingal), a doctor working in the government service is in love with Jayaprakash from their campus days. Though much of his family members don't support this relationship, Surendran approves of the relationship. Beena, on the other hand is a simple girl who prefers to live modestly, though he hails from an influential and rich family.
Prithviraj who is excited about essaying the role of Jayaprakash, is also producing the movie, along with Santosh Sivan and Shaji Natesan under their banner, August Cinema
The movie will also have veteran actor Thilakan coming back to commercial Mollywood after a ban inflicted upon him by AMMA. Jagathy Sreekumar, Shweta Menon, Sreelatha, Vijayan V Nair, Mamukoya, Tini Tom, Mallika (of 'Autograph' fame), Zeenath, Appunni Sasi and Babu Namboothiri, also play major roles in the film.
