The highly anticipated 2024 Olympics in Paris have captured the world’s attention, and India was abuzz with excitement as Vinesh Phogat made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final in the women’s 50kg category. Assured of at least a silver medal, Phogat was set to compete for the gold in a final match tonight.

The nation was filled with pride and anticipation, celebrating Phogat’s remarkable achievement. However, the joy was short-lived when the 29-year-old wrestler was disqualified from the final match after being found 150 grams overweight during today’s weigh-in. Reports indicate that Vinesh Phogat weighed approximately 52kg the previous night.

In an attempt to meet the weight requirement, Vinesh and her team spent the entire night trying to reduce her weight, forgoing sleep. Despite their best efforts, which included rigorous last-minute exercises and even cutting her hair, she was unable to meet the required weight limit. This disqualification not only dashed her hopes of competing for the gold medal but also meant she would leave the Olympics without any medal.

The situation took a turn for the worse when Vinesh fainted due to dehydration and was subsequently hospitalized. Sources report that she is currently stable and recovering at the Olympic Village’s polyclinic. This heartbreaking news has left the entire nation devastated, as India had been eagerly anticipating Phogat’s victory in the final.
