Ravi Babu Kolla, 47, has been arrested in the US for running a fake marriage racket from his place in Panama City. He and his partner are guilty of helping illegal immigrants (most of them Indians) to tie the knot to American women so that they can stay in the country.
As per police, Kolla and his partner (a woman) were engaged in a high-level marriage and visa fraud conspiracy for about 1.5 years, during which they recruited many American women for marriage with Indian immigrants.
As many as 80 fraudulent marriages were performed with the aim of securing immigration benefits for illegals, officials say.
Since money laundering conspiracy is also involved in the case, Kolla could be sentenced for a 20-year imprisonment.
