Actress Nushrratt Bharuccha, who was stranded in Israel due to a terrorist attack by Hamas that had escalated into war since, has safely returned to India this afternoon. Earlier reports indicated that the team had lost contact with her.
Revealing that the actress has been brought back safely, her team issued a statement that read, "We finally have Nushrratt in touch. With the help of the Embassy, she is being brought home safely. As there was no direct flight available from there to India, she is on transit and connecting flights en route. We couldn't share any further details for her safety reasons, but as soon as she lands in India, we will surely update you all regarding the same. We are really relieved, and we thank God that our angel is safe."
Her team later informed us that Ms. Bharuccha flew to India and is expected to land in Mumbai around 2 p.m. The 38-year-old actor had gone to Israel for the Haifa International Film Festival, as her film "Akeli" was being showcased there for the first time. The movie also has Israeli actors Tsahi Halevi and Amir Boutrous, known for their work in the hit web series "Fauda."
The continued conflict has so far resulted in almost 500 deaths due to the rocket attacks by Hamas on Israeli cities and retaliatory strikes by Tel Aviv. Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu had promised reprisals for the attacks, which he described as "a cruel and evil war" from the side of Hamas.
Post-conflict, Palestine reiterated that a political solution is needed and Palestinian self-determination rights should be allowed so that they can form their own state. Indian Premier Narendra Modi expressed his deep condemnation of the terrorist attack on Israel and India's solidarity with Israel during this hour of grief.
According to an advisory released by the Indian Embassy, all its citizens residing in Israel should remain vigilant and follow safety protocols while staying near secured shelters.
