Kamal Haasan and Shankar united for the first time in 'Indian' released in 1996 which was a massive blockbuster hit all over the country. Kamal played dual roles of a wizened old freedom fighter turned vigilante Senapathy bent on rooting out corruption and his son Chandru who is as corrupt as they come, The film produced by A.M. Ratnam had music by A.R. Rahman while Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Suganya, Goundamani and Senthil played other important charaters.
After more than two decades the sequel to the film 'Indian 2' was announced and after facing many a hurdle has now developed into something much bigger than what the team planned. According to reliable sources, after editing the film Shankar found that they had enough footage for a third part.
It is said that after further editing 'Indian 3' is now complete while around thirty days shooting is necessary for 'Indian 2'. The trade circles say that Kamal readily agreed to give his call sheet for the required days and Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies have agreed to pay his current remuneration of Rs. 120 Crores. It is well known that when the sequel started four years back the Ulaganayagan took only Rs. 30 Crores as his salary.
However this means that Kamal's already planned projects such as 'KH 233' directed by H. Vinoth and 'KH 234' directed by Mani Ratnam will be postponed further. Apart from hosting 'BIgg Boss Tamil 7', Kamal is also playing the chief antagonist in 'Kalki 2898' starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan.
