India, which is the world’s second country when it comes to population and is placed next only to its neighbour China, made a ‘significant contribution’ to the ever-growing populace by delivering as many as 70,000 children (across the country) in a single day i.e. on the New year Day (01st January).
According to a communique issued by UNICEF recently in Nigeria, India holds the ‘first place’ in delivering most number of newly-born babies on a single day and this (dubious) achievement coincided with the New Year day of the new year which was born only on Tuesday.
Among the 3,95,072 babies born across the world yesterday, close to 70,000 babies (which is almost 18%) were born across the length and breadth of the country. Uttar Pradesh, which is the most populated in the State, accounted for 16,000 babies out of the 70,000 babies. China, which consciously follows contraception methods to reduce its population, gave birth only to 45,000 babies.
Nigeria (25,685), Pakistan (15,112), Indonesia (11,256), U.S. (11.086), Congo (10,053) and Bangladesh (8,428) are the other countries which recorded significant number of new-born babies on New Year day.
