In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s supporters, a recent economic survey conducted by popular English journal India Today has put Tamil Nadu in second place in the list of States/Union Territories which contribute a lot to internal production.

Maharashtra, thanks to its capital Mumbai being the ‘commercial capital’ of India, is obviously placed on top of the list as it is possessed naturally with agricultural and industrial might. Maharashtra accounts for Rs.16.6 lakh crores followed by Tamil Nadu which produces goods/products worth Rs.9.48 lakh crores.

Uttar Pradesh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home-State Gujarat are placed joint third with a production of Rs.9.2 lakh crores. Karnataka takes the fifth spot with a GDP of Rs.8.14 lakh crores. These five States – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka – contribute to 46% of the total GDP, it is said. The survey has been based on economic data available for the financial year 2015-16.

With a growth rate of 16.5%, Arunachal Pradesh tops the list of States/UTs which have a fast-paced, vibrant economy. It is followed closely by Jammu & Kashmir (14.7%), Goa (11.5%), Gujarat (11.1%) and Andhra Pradesh (11%).  NCT of Delhi ranks on top in per capita income with Rs.2,26 lakhs and is followed by Goa (R.2.23 lakhs) while Pondicherry (Rs.1.41 lakhs) is placed fourth on the list.
