Prasar Bharati is reportedly executing its plans to launch a global TV channel by the name of DD International. The channel will possess a decidedly international character. It has been likened to BBC World.

For decades. India has struggled to put out its version and perspective on the global stage. The likes of BBC and CNN, not to speak of foreign media houses like New York Times, Washington Post and Guardian, don't enthusiastically present the Indian version. They are anti-India when it comes to a lot of issues concerning Kashmir, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and even Indo-China relations.

In order to turn a new leaf, Prasar Bharati has invited Expression of Interest drafts from private players with regard to DD International.

Reporting on the same, TNIE recently wrote, "National broadcaster Doordarshan to launch DD International to change the global narrative on India's #COVID19 response." A Twitter user said that the channel will help to demolish the anti-India narrative peddled by the private media mafia at the international level.

Columnist Mrinal Pande said that earlier DD International was broadcasting in 146 countries. "In the UK, it was available through the Eurobird satellite on the Sky system's channel. Due to a resource crunch, that transmission ended in June 2008. Another via DirecTV in the United States closed soon after," she added.
