India has decided to export COVID-19 vaccines to six countries now that the manufacturing capacity of SII's Covishield has improved a lot. The country will be exporting vaccines to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles starting today.

Official statements say that Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius are in the pipeline. Regulatory clearances have to be in place before exports can be made to the three countries. 

On Wednesday, the government said that India will provide one million dosages to Nepal. "The vaccine will land in Kathmandu on Thursday," the Health Minister of Nepal confirmed.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Nasheed, the President of Maldives, thanked India for the goodwill gesture. "Today, an Air India plane will land in Male with 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine jabs, a gift from India. For Maldives, it’s the beginning of the end of this terrible virus. During the tsunami, ‘88 coup, water crisis or corona Microbe, India has been our first responder and dependable friend," he tweeted out.
