India's new coronavirus caseload stands at 77,266 in the last 24 hours (as of Friday morning). This is a record one-day high. The country now has got 33,87,500 COVID-19 cases in total. India lags behind only the US and Brazil in terms of the number of confirmed infections. Within India, Maharashtra remains at the top, with more than 7.33 lakh cases.
The cumulative death count has climbed up to 61,529.
The good news is that the recovery rate is very decent. With 25,83,948 patients recovering, the recovery rate has soared past 76.27%. With a death rate of about 1.8%, India has breathing space.
August has seen a colossal increase in the number of cases. The country's caseload per day has been consistently the highest in the world since August 4.
