The 38th match of the ICC Cricket Worldcup between India and England saw India losing by 31 runs. Earlier, England batting first scored 337 runs, while India, chasing the target could score only 306. Following the defeat Indian cricket fans started criticizing Dhoni and his batting abilities.

The first 10 overs of the Indian innings had India scoring 28/1, and later Kohli and Rohit Sharma accelerated a bit before departing. While Rishabh Pant scored 32 runs, Dhoni and Pandya found it tough towards the end, to score more than 100 runs in 10 overs. However, there have been reactions from fans that Dhoni never showed intent to chase and even Ganguly who was in the commentary box was seen telling the same.

Actor Sarathkumar has defended Dhoni, as he tweeted "I do not understand why Dhoni's abilities are in constant scrutiny when he is doing his best, yesterday's match were Kohli Pandya able to hit 4's and 6's,why couldn't they increase the run rate,Ind team is doing well let us not criticize,let us support".
