In what should worry us about the coming back of coronavirus, India has logged as many as 24,882 new COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours (mainly related to Friday). There were 19,957 recoveries in the same period, while there were about 140 deaths.
As per the latest health data, there are about 1,13,33,728 confirmed cases in the country, of which active cases are 2,02,022 in number. Total recoveries are 1,09,73,260 in number. The death toll has gone up to 1,58,446.
Total vaccinations have gone up to 2,82,18,457. The pace of vaccination is picking up fast, with the daily number touching more than 2 million. "A total of 20,53,537 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours," the data says.
A real concern is that active cases are going up again. Columnist Rahul Bajoria wrote, "India’s active cases have risen almost 50% in last 4 weeks. We really need to speed up vaccinations and distribute to a larger group of individuals."
States such as Maharashtra and Punjab are continuing to log the maximum cases.
