A recent report has said that, in 2019, there were as many as 19 billion app downloads by Indians. This was a huge growth of 195 percent from the year 2016.
However, in terms of consumer spend on mobile apps, India's contribution is quite negligible. It's just 0.03 percent of the global spend of $120 billion. China's spend stands at a whopping 40 percent. This means that Indians are not spending much on subscriptions. Globally, 95 percent of consumer spend is on subscriptions.
Tez, Amazon, MX Player and TikTok were the breakout apps in 2019, the report says. Digital payments and food/drink apps were used like never before last year.
