Five other persons with the same name filed their nomination papers as independent candidates after former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) filed his nomination from the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.
The additional nominations include those filed in Usilampatti in Madurai, South Kattur, Vagaikulam village, and Madurai Cholai Azhakupuram, according to data available with the Election Commission.
"I am contesting in the Ramanathapuram constituency on behalf of the AIADMK Volunteer Rights Rescue Committee," he told reporters. "My focus will be on reinstating the lost projects in this constituency and addressing the plight of the coastal fishermen." I have made this to PM Modi, who is going to take charge as Prime Minister for the third time."
He emphasized his commitment to implementing welfare schemes for his constituents.
In alliance with the BJP, OPS is contesting as an independent after legal hassles in the Madras High Court over the retention of the AIADMK flag and letterhead.
