Yesterday, director Roland Emmerich shared the news on his Facebook page that the latest addition to the 'Independence Day' sequel currently being filmed is William Fichtner. He's primarily known for his role as the villain in last year's 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' reboot film, his cameo in 'The Dark Knight' and as the villain of the hit action-crime TV series 'Prison Break'. His role is being described as small and that of a top General in the film.

Fichtner joins a star-studded cast that includes Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A Fox, Liam Hemsworth, Brent Spiner and Maika Monroe.

In addition, news has also now emerged from the 'Independence Day' camp that parts 3 and 4 are being planned. The sequel to the 1996 worldwide blockbuster has taken nearly 20 years for director Roland Emmerich and 20th Century Fox to get going.

'Independence Day 2' is scheduled to smash through screens on June 24th 2016.
