In a first-of-its-kind, an IPS officer takes up SI’s post in Trivandrum!

In a first-of-its-kind incident in Kerala, a newly-recruited IPS officer has been assigned the job of Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) in Trivandrum!

IPS officials are usually appointed in Superintendent of Police of ASP ranks across the country. In order to approach things differently, Kerala DGP Loknath Behra issued an order recently stating that IPS officials posted to Kerala should serve as an SI for a minimum period of 6 months at a police station in the State.

This would help them learn the local language (Malayalam) fast besides getting to know about the tradition followed by the people of the State. It would also provide them a deep insight as to how different cases are handled at a police station, the order had elaborated in detail the reasons for making IPS officers to serve in police stations.

Young Delhi-based IPS officer Navneet Sharma, who recently reported for duty in Kerala, has been assigned the post of an SI at the Poovar Police Station near Trivandrum.  He took up his assignment early this week as a Sub-Inspector and has also been assigned an official mobile number held by his predecessor.
