Important: Valved N95 masks are dangerous

For months now, N95 masks in general have been considered to be safer by definition. Nobody asked whether those N95 masks with filters are as safe as the other types.
And now, a Union Health Ministry warning declares that N95 masks with a valved respirator can be detrimental in preventing Covid-19. The valves allegedly don't prevent the virus from escaping out of the mask.
Dr Rajiv Garg has stated in a letter that there has been inappropriate use of the N95 mask by the general public in India. He prescribes a specific kind of home-made protective cover as mentioned on the Union Health Ministry site.
All States have now been advised to take appropriate steps to prevent the use of valved masks.
