IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Several States as Monsoon Intensifies

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings for several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon continues to remain active. States including Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Northeast India are expected to receive intense rainfall over the next few days.

Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain cautious, as waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides are possible in vulnerable regions. State disaster management teams have been put on alert, while local administrations are monitoring river levels and preparing emergency response measures.

The weather department has also warned that heavy rainfall could affect road, rail, and air transportation in several cities. Commuters have been advised to check weather updates before planning their journeys.

The southwest monsoon has remained active across most parts of India this season, bringing widespread rainfall that has benefited agriculture in many regions. However, the increased intensity has also raised concerns about flooding and infrastructure disruptions in urban and hilly areas.

Meteorologists expect the active monsoon conditions to continue over eastern and northeastern India for the next few days, with periodic heavy showers likely in several districts.
