Multiple national award-winning actor and film-maker Prakash Raj has come down hard on the trend of actors taking to politics to guide a State’s destiny.

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, close buddies for more than the past four decades, have declared their intention to take to politics. While Kamal has said that he would first tour the entire State to talk to people and supporters before announcing his formal entry in politics, Rajini is expected to give a clear hint about his political entry on his upcoming birthday on 12th December.

Speaking to newsmen in Bangalore, Prakash Raj said that actors should and need not take to politics at all. “Actors taking to politics would only spell destruction or doom for the country in the long run. I’m also not in favour actors/actresses aligning with any political party or expressing their open support to politicians and parties. I won’t joint Kamal’s proposed political outfit.

“It is high time actors functioned in a responsible manner; the only reason that they have been in entertainment industry for long and have been popular actors need not serve as an impetus for their political entry,” Raj said. It may be noted that the actor, who had taken on the ruling BJP at the Centre in journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder and farmers’ issue, has starred with all the three – Rajini, Kamal and Vijay – who have been nursing political ambitions!
