Director Bharathan has proved himself as a worthy dialogue writer with his repertoire of super hit films 'Dhil', 'Dhool', 'Ghillie', 'Madurey' and 'Veeram'. He has teamed up with Ilayathalapathy Vijay for the second time as a director for 'Bairavaa' which will be hitting the screens in as many as 55 countries across the globe on January 12, 2016 as a grand Pongal treat. 'Bairavaa' should be the Pongal gift that fans expect from Vijay, if it has to fetch the break for Bharathan as a director. Will that happen?

Your first two films 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' and 'Athithi' were not commercially successful. How confident are you about 'Bairavaa' giving you the much needed break as a director in Kollywood?

More than anyone else, I am the one who has analysed the reasons for the below par performance of my previous films. As you said, both the films were technically sound, songs were good but there were some problems in the screenplay. In these years of gap, I have wrote 3-4 stories and made sure that the mistakes of in the scrips of my previous films are eliminated. One among them is the story of 'Bairavaa'. We wrote the script with extreme care when we knew Vijay sir will be the hero. The result for our hard work was evident in every stage of the film.

When I took the story to the prestigious Vijaya Productions banner who are known for films with more prominence to story. I narrated the story to Bharathi Reddy Amma, Venkat Rama Reddy sir,two other people for the first time. All the four were impressed. Immediately they called Vijay sir and asked when he will be ready to listen to the script. He asked me to come immediately.

I went to meet Vijay sir. ATM was not commercially successful. But Vijay sir never speak anything about that film and he was focused only about the future. He received me well and inquired about the well being of my family. Then I started the narration. During the interval I noticed a positive feeling in sir's face. Since I have discussed stories with him in the past I can easily understand the meaning Vijay sir's reactions after listening to story or a scene. With that I can guess whether he is really impressed with it.

After a coffee break I narrated the second half. Immediately VIjay sir gave a handshake and said "நாம் இந்த படம் பண்றோம்.: ( we are doing this film) and asked me to go ahead with other works to start the film.

Why does Vijay sport a wig in this film? Does that have any important connection with the story or his character?

That was only to give a different feel to audience in Vijay sir's get up. It will be an attraction for the kind of character he plays in the film.

Vijay's 'Theri Baby' dialogue in his previous blockbuster 'Theri' is a phenomenal hit. How about 'Chellakutty' in 'Bairavaa' ?

We added that word with a particular dialogue since it will look suitable there. The way Vijay sir has uttered the word was great. Since it was very good, we wanted to repeat it many places. I am sure it will attract children and youngster

The lyrics of 'Papa Papa' song may be interpreted as encouraging Vijay's entry into politics. Was that intentional? Did Vijay sir spoke anything before recording the song?

No Vijay sir never interferes in lyrics and all and he leaves everything to director's prerogative. Vijay sir listens to lyrics only while listening to the recorded song.

When I narrated the story Vairamuthu sir, he said he will take it as a challenge to give best lyrics as the story was strong and the hero is a man who is being celebrated by fans as their family member. The song comes at a time when the hero opposes a social evil and succeeds in saving people from that. So the lines were written to fit that situation where the people sing about a warrior who has saved them and the hero in written sings in a way that empowers the people. The song will be apt for the situation as well as the situation in the film.

Tell us about the experiences of working with Thala Ajith in 'Veeram'?

I got the offer through my longtime friend, Art Director Prabhakar. I was happy that Vijaya Productions considered me to write dialogues for their film after watching 'Ghillie', 'Dhil' and 'Dhool'. I enjoyed watching 'Siruthai'. I was excited to work with its director and that was also my first film with Ajith. Immediately I accepted the offer. I focused on matching the mass image of Ajith sir while writing the dialogues and Siva sir liked them.

I met Ajith sir only once during the shooting. He was very happy with the dialogues and spoke well with me. He enquired about my future projects. After the release of 'Veeram' I received a lot of congratulatory messages.

I forgot to tell you that when I met Vijay sir to narrate 'Bairavaa' story, the first thing he first profoundly appreciated the dialogues I wrote for 'Veeram'. He had watched the film in theatre along with fans. He even recollected a few dialogues from the film and said he was so impressed. I was amazed by his genorousity.

We heard Vijay sir has performed all the stunt sequences without dupe. How much was the risk involved?

Stunt itself is a risky job. There are so many risky stunt shots in the film. Vijay sir sharply watches the instructions of the stunt master and performs them with perfection. For climax fight we used around 30 fighters from North India. That was the requirement of the script. They don't know Tamil. This is the first time they worked for the first time with Vijay in this film.

There is a shot, in which the hero has to kick four-five people and land at a particular position. Vijay sir just watched the rehearsal once and performed it in single take. It was taken at the top of a 16 floor building under construction..

This made everyone in the unit to buoyantly applaud. The north Indian fighters were shocked and stunned. We could here them speaking within themselves in Hindi praising Vijay sir's perfection in stunts.

What was Vijay's reaction after watching the film?
